Why am I required to install a bracket for my window air conditioning (AC) unit?

If you have installed a window AC unit, the HOA insurance carriers are now requiring these units to be secured with a safety bracket to prevent the unit from falling and potentially causing damage/injury to anything below. This requirement comes directly from the HAO insurance carrier and the HOA can/will lose its insurance policy if we do not enforce these provisions. The brackets can be found at any home supply store or even amazon. An example bracket and a few links are below.
